| Ok guys I have looked through the several posts in the FAQ. My antenna has decided to fail. I suppose it has to do with a few things. One, the car is much more stiff and bouncy than it ever was before, and two, my new head unit powers the antenna any time the unit is on, not just the radio. The symptoms are: Antenna not going up or down when it should. It sticks up when fully extended and I have to manually push it or help it down till the motor catches, and it only goes about 3/4 of the way up when powered on. So I browsed through some of the FAQ posts on the antenna and surmised that there are times when just the antenna chain fails and detaches itself, and there are times when the entire motor fails. I belive my motor is still good. I believe my chain is still good but detached. But when I originally looked at my antenna it seemed like maybe it was just bent from wind or whatever and that is what initially caused problems for the operation, very slight kinks in the antenna mast which caused obstructions in the up and down operation. By this point I think I have to open it up and re-attrach the chain, I just wanted to verify with everyone that this was in fact as simple as it seems if my symptoms are correct? It almost seems like if my chain and motor are still good, then there must be a way to re-attach the chain from the bottom without ever opening up the fenders; ie pushing the antenna all the way down with stereo off, then turning on the stereo and guiding the antenna up? But probably not! Any more input or advice is greatly appreciated.
